Sean Berkstresser

Apollo native Sean Berkstresser is an 8 year veteran of professional hockey. Berkstresser accumulated 201 points and 590 penalty minutes over 458 games with the Wheeling Nailers (Penguins), Johnstown Chiefs (Avalanche), Greenvile Road Warriors (Rangers), and Gwinnett Gladiators (Coyotes) of the ECHL. Now he's looking to help the next generation of Pittsburgh hockey players reach the next level.

Berkstresser recently opened a fitness facility at Alpha Ice as part of the Finish First Sports Performance Network. Sean is also available for on-ice private lessons.

Grant Springer

Grant Springer

As a native of Ontario, Canada, Grant grew up playing hockey. In 1982 Grant was drafted by the Oshawa Generals (OHL). However after being awarded an athletic scholarship for soccer at Alderson Broadus College (West Virginia), he decided to pursue the college route. Throughout College Grant stayed close to his hockey roots and trained with former Stanley Cup winners Gary Roberts and Joe Nieuwendyk.

After college Grant played 2 seasons with the Markham Waxers (OPJHL) where, as a call up for St. John’s in the American Hockey League, he was able to play in 3 AHL games. In 1997 Grant took the position of Hockey Director at the Ice Zone in Youngstown, OH. During this time, he helped start the first Junior A team out of Youngstown, the Phantom Rockets, which later evolved into the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms.

Grant is a USA Hockey Level 4 coach who has coached from the Mite through Midget levels as well as at the Junior A level. Grant Continues to train players during their off season-working with, among others, J.T. Miller of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Grant has a passion and knowledge for the game and enjoys passing this passion and knowledge down to the next generation of players.
